The Intro!!
My introduction post- yippee!! Welcome to my blog! Here I intend to write my thoughts about different art techniques I use, tips, tricks, and thought provoking questions!! But not too thought provoking,, I’m not here to give myself a headache but more so write my thoughts I would’ve sent to my best friends anyways (shoutout Mary and Meli)
For starters- hi, I’m Gaby! I use she/her pronouns! Besides digital art, I love printmaking!! I mostly carve linoleum blocks but if I’m ever able to have my own studio- that isn’t also my bedroom- I would LOVE a screen printing set up!
Some of my favorite subjects to paint are backgrounds, visual concepts, and (surprisingly) creature designs! I think my love for paleontology as a kid sparked my imagination for creature designing! To this day, I keep up with modern findings in the paleontology field! Learning never stops just because I’m out of school!
Painting backgrounds and landscapes clicked with me while learning in college. Something about the emotional connection through lighting, color, and brushstrokes made me fall in love with this subject matter. Sometimes it’s more forgiving to paint natural objects instead of strict perspective! Fundamentals are needed nonetheless!
When I’m not drawing, I love reading! Some books I’ve read recently are The Atlas Six series (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and Song of Achilles! I plan on starting some other of Olivie Blake’s writings too! I feel having hobbies that don’t require looking at a screen yet are still creative are so important! Give those peepers a break! Hallucinate while looking at dead wood! Read!
Like most others, I enjoy Animal Crossing with all of my fricken heart!! Who doesn’t want to be indebted to a tanooki while decorating your silly, little island!! Other games that inspire me greatly are Cult of the Lamb and Ori and the Blind Forest! Both such gorgeous works of art that are so fun to play as well! If you haven’t had the chance to play these, once again, highly recommend!!
As an animator as well, of COURSE I have cartoons that are near and dear to my heart! We cannot have an introduction post and not have me talk about Avatar the Last Airbender and Korra!! Literally these two shows revolutionized how I approached drawing, painting, life, tea, and storytelling! (Always beware of mentioning Zuko around me for I fear I might never shut up about his story arc).
Other shows I love, well, I might save that for another post!! A little surprise down the way you could say!!
All in all, I love art! I love creation! I love nature! I love dinosaurs! I love experiencing life! I hope sharing my thoughts can help you experience the joy that I do as well. I’ll chat with y’all soon- hehe!!
